OT Wisdom Wednesday: Connect, Share, Learn, & Grow

Hello, everyone!

It’s been a while since I shared with you all on here, so I figured I’d start of this break with something that is very near and dear to my heart. Personal and professional growth!! <3 I have come up with a fun way to help everyone stay dedicated to their own goals, their own personal and professional development, and give back to the community by sharing some of what they have learned!

It all happens on Instagram, folks! Maybe you’re already following Taelor-Made OT’s Instagram account and maybe you’re new to the whole idea. Regardless, I’m here to fill you in on the details. Many of you may have questions about OT Wisdom Wednesday. Well, you’re in luck! I’m here to tell you what it is, how you can participate, and why I created this campaign – or series, if you’d rather! 🙂 If you have any other questions after reading, I’d be happy to answer!

Why OT Wisdom Wednesday?

OT Wisdom Wednesday is about:

  • bringing the community together
  • learning from one another
  • reminding yourself that you *do* know things – a lot of things (fighting impostor syndrome)
  • helping you hold yourself to that principle of lifelong learning that aligns with occupational therapy
  • advocating for occupational therapy as a profession by posting and educating

How can you join in?

This weekly campaign takes place on my Instagram account. Here are the steps to take to be part of this movement:

Using your story or your news feed, share a post with your “wisdom.” This can be any topic, relate to clinical practice or personal development (which will in turn impact clinical practice), and can be as short or as long as you want! After you do that, use the hashtag #OTWisdomWednesday and tag me @taelormadeot. I will choose a few each week that I like the best to feature on my page for all of my community to learn from YOU, too! 😀

In summary…

  1. Share your wisdom on your Instagram news feed or story
  2. Use #OTWisdomWednesday
  3. Tag me, @TaelorMadeOT

That’s it! It’s free, easy, fun, and helps keep us all accountable for our own development and growth! Still stuck? That’s okay!

Here are some examples of OT Wisdom Wednesday posts:

  • motivating quotes or blurbs to help those who could use the inspiration
    • It is the middle of the week after all! Help your peers get over that hump and remind them why they and this profession are awesome!
  • insight on a session or clinical experience
    • e.g. what you did, what went well, what could have gone better, what did you learn, what can others take away from it, etc.
  • small tips and tricks from clinical practice to share with other OT students and practitioners
    • e.g. quick strategy for handwriting, favorite behavioral strategy with children, shared EBP methods that you’ve seen work, etc.
  • personal development
    • e.g. goal setting, self-care strategies, mindfulness tips, etc.
  • professional development
    • e.g. something new you learned about billing, documentation, really anything!

IMPORTANT: Sharing what you’ve learned and information from other people is an important part of the knowledge and professional/personal development process. However, please cite your sources whether that’s research, a graphic someone created, or ideas inspired from someone else. Please cite the original source. Not only is it common courtesy – in some instances – it is the law. We all respect each other here, so please demonstrate that. On social media, a quick tag will typically suffice for a citation! If the source is unknown, please type “source unknown” and change the source if it later is revealed. Thank you for helping keep this a respectful and fun campaign! 🙂

What if you don’t want to participate?

That’s completely fine! Some choose to participate every week, some occasionally, and some just enjoy going through the hashtag #OTWisdomWednesday and reading what all of the OT practitioners and students have to say. 🙂 There’s a little something for everyone!
